I don’t know about you, but things are certainly starting to get much busier. As restrictions are relaxing, it’s lovely to be able to meet up with friends and family and catch up on what’s been happening over the last few months. I know from lots of you in class that you are making the most of being able to go out – and very often that means eating out!
It is so tempting to get together with people you haven’t seen for a while, chatter away and eat whatever you want! That’s a sure-fire way to undo all the good losses you’ve achieved… and then that little voice in your head pops up and joins in with “it’s only once”, “I haven’t been out for such a long time” or “I’ll get back to it tomorrow”! Later in the week when you stand on the scales, I bet you wish you’d been stronger!
This week I’m sharing some tips and ideas to show you that you can eat out AND still lose weight.
First of all, it’s about planning ahead. Look at the menus ahead of time and choose a healthy meal option. Here are some ideas about what to choose and the difference it will make!
It’s also helpful to eat a bit less throughout the rest of that day too – and if you’re hungry before you go out, have a piece of fruit before you go, just to take the edge off your hunger.
When you get to the restaurant, make sure you don’t overdo it when the bread basket comes along. Take notice of the portion sizes too – on the menu and when it comes on your plate.
Order up on healthy sides such as salads and vegetables, but make sure you order the dressing ‘on the side’ and skip the croutons. Don’t be afraid to customise a salad or side dish no extra butter or toppings) to make it more healthy.
Don’t forget about the liquid calories too. If you want to indulge, have a glass of wine or a ‘skinny’ cocktail and sip it slowly. Remember too to have a glass of water with your meal and stay hydrated.
I hope these tips help you. With a little thought beforehand, you can still enjoy meeting friends and eating out…..and still smile at your weight loss for that week!
And to keep you motivated, we’re introducing the Melting Snowman in class this week. If you lose just one pound every week, you’ll have lost 2 stone by the end of the year! So claim your sticker for every pound you lose and that snowman will soon disappear under those sparkling diamond stickers!
Keep at it!
