It’s all too easy to take your eye off the ball but you can look good and feel great over the festive season by simply checking out the low-fat alternatives to your festive favourites. By making changes to your shopping list, you’ll save ££££s as well as inches!

Now here are some recipes to help with your Christmas planning too:

Citrus Prawn Cocktail

Serves 4 – approx. 65 cals per serving

Fresh rocket leaves                                                      1 orange, segmented
2 tbsp Extra Light Mayo                                              1 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
Juice of ½ lime                                                              160g/6oz cooked, peeled prawns
Salt & Black Pepper

Shred the rocket and place in the base of 4 glasses. Add the orange segments and squeeze the juice over. Mix together the mayo, sweet chilli sauce and lime juice and season with salt and black pepper. Add the prawns and mix well. Spoon over the rocket leaves and garnish with lime wedges. Serve and enjoy!

Slimtone Mince Pies

Makes 40 pies – approx. 76 cals each and 2g fat

196g/7oz mincemeat                                                   196g/7oz reduced sugar marmalade (mix together)
450g/1lb self-raising flour                                           196g/7oz half fat butter
Juice and rind of 1 orange                                           pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 180C/375F/Gas mark 6. Sieve the flour and salt into a mixing bowl. Rub in the butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Add the juice and grated rind of an orange with water to make up to ½ cup. Mix to a dough by adding water to the mixture. Roll out very thinly on a lightly floured surface making 40 pies with a 3-inch cutter. Place in patty tins and fill with one teaspoon (5g) of mincemeat and marmalade mixture. Cut out a further 40 pastry shapes e.g. stars and place on top of mincemeat. Place in oven and cook for 12-15 minutes.
