Thanks to Marie and Slimtone, I now have bags of energy!

Phil lost over 3 stone and says the key to losing weight is planning

Here’s how he did it….

When retired bank manager Phil joined Slimtone he knew he needed to start looking after himself. My health wasn’t too good – it’s tough getting older! – and, after losing my wife, I wasn’t eating properly, my mobility was poor, and I’d generally lost my mojo. I knew I had to get my act together and Slimtone seemed to offer the answer.

I certainly made a good decision!
I’d met Marie about 25 years ago when she was a Dynamo role model for the Welsh Government. She was certainly a dynamo, and I had a lot of respect for her and the business she had built up, so she was the first person to come to mind. It was certainly a good decision. Thanks to Marie and Slimtone, I’ve lost over 3 stone. I have bags of energy – I swim three times a week and walk around 8 miles most days. I’m eating properly now and I’m cooking again too.

 It works for me
The Lifestyle Plan really works for me. I plan my week carefully, for example, if I’m eating out with friends, as I often do, I’ll really look at the menu before making my choice and then just have a light meal that day at home. I also write down EVERYTHING I eat. I live on my own now and don’t have any biscuits or cake etc in the house, so there’s no temptation. Some of the other members in the class laugh when I say I’ve got 26 weeks of my personal plans, but I like to be organised – and it works!

I’m a creature of habit
I’ve got back into cooking too. One of my favourites is the ham and mushroom tagliatelle. I didn’t used to like soup, but everyone in class said how good the soup makers are, and now I’m a convert. The Spicy Parsnip soup is really tasty and I like the Broccoli and Blue Laughing Cow recipe too. I’m a creature of habit, so have sea bass, rice and frozen veg at least once a week, I like scallops and laverbread too – and always use the Slimtone book for my recipes.

It’s not just about following a diet….
I was a little worried at the start about being the only man in class – not now though as there’s a few of us now! I used to come in, weigh, then leave. Eventually I was won over and stayed for Marie’s talk. Marie shares lots of best practice, is always up-to-date with the latest learning about healthy eating and it’s great hearing all the tips, from Marie and the other members. I’ve learnt that Slimtone isn’t just about following a diet, it’s about the experience, the support and the friendship too.

I’ve even climbed Pen y Fan! 
Slimtone has made such a difference to me. I love being able to exercise and feeling so fit. Between having two new knees in the last couple of years and losing weight, I’ve even climbed Pen-y-fan and am thrilled.

Marie works so hard to make Slimtone such a positive experience for everyone, it’s only right that we work hard to follow her advice. Like me, you’ll certainly be glad you did!
