Gosh, now the children are back to school, the weeks are flying by! I’ve checked the calendar and there are just 15 weeks until Christmas! That means that it’s possible to lose a stone by the time Father Christmas comes along – and that’s losing just one pound a week! Just think how much better you’d feel if you achieved that!

If you haven’t been to class lately, why not come along now and set yourself a target to feel fitter and healthier by Christmas! As an incentive, we have a new snowman card for every member to help you melt away the pounds. I know lots of members find this helpful and motivating – and remember, there are lots of others in class in the same position as you, all giving support and encouragement to each other. We’d love to see you!

If you’ve got more than a stone to lose, you may be feeling overwhelmed, so here are a few tips to help you on your way.

Follow the low G.I. plan. This is one of the weekly menu plans in the Slimtone Lifestyle Plan and is ideal to give you a kick-start to your weight loss. It has been designed to provide you with a sensible, nutritious diet that is tailored for all the family. Also, the low G.I. options will provide slow release energy and satisfy your hunger for a longer period of time – especially if you’ve got into the habit of nibbling.

ALWAYS have breakfast.  All the suggestions in the Lifestyle Plan are easy to prepare and will keep you satisfied without the extra calories. It’s been proven that eating a healthy, balanced breakfast can help with concentration and mood swings and will avoid those “sugar dips” and the inevitable mid-morning “picking”.

ALWAYS have your ‘5-a-day’.  Take advantage of the ideas for ‘free’ vegetables as listed in your Lifestyle Plan. Take time to make the soups which you will find great as a starter to a meal or as a snack when you feel like nibbling. Serving a side salad with a toastie at lunchtime or with your evening meal is also a good way of having your ‘5-a-day’.    

Take more exercise.  Find an exercise you enjoy and that fits in with your lifestyle – walking, Zumba, dancing, even hula-hooping are all excellent! Regular exercise not only burns off the calories, it tones the muscles and you’ll soon see those inches melt away.      

Get into the habit of drinking water. Drinking six to eight glasses of water a day has so many benefits. So often we reach for the biscuit tin thinking we are hungry when it is our bodies crying out for water. You’ll soon feel far more alert and your whole body will function better when hydrated. Add sliced lemon, lime, orange, sprigs of mint or grated ginger for added flavour.

Finally, make time to use your food diary AND REMEMBER – IF YOU BITE IT, WRITE IT!
